Cursillo
Upcoming Fall Weekends:
Men: October 7-10, 2010
Women: November 11-14, 2010
Cursillo (pronounced ‘Cur-SEE-yo’) in Spanish means “short course”. It is a ministry that began in the Roman Catholic Church and was founded in Majorca, Spain in 1944. Cursillo is supported by the hierarchy of the Roman Catholic Church and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
The Cursillo method focuses on training lay people to become effective leaders over the course of a three-day weekend. The weekend includes talks, some given by priests and some by lay people, and participants are given the opportunity to participate in the Sacraments and many traditions of the Catholic faith. One emphasis of the weekend is on preparing those undergoing it to take the movement's methods back into the world. It is not a theoretical course nor a traditional retreat. It is best described as an experience…an experience that leads to discover and better live what is fundamental in Christianity.
In the diocese of Evansville, the Cursillo weekends are held at the Sarto Retreat House and Catholic Center. The weekends are gender specific and 2 weekends are offered per year – 2 for men and 2 for women (Spring and Fall).
